1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to Schmick Industries Pty Ltd (ABN 93 698 355 556, ACN 698 355 556) — referred to below as "we", "us" and "our" — and to personal information we collect through this website, by email, and in the course of quoting and carrying out fabrication, welding, machining and finishing work.

We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) set out in that Act.

2. What personal information we collect

We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our business. That is usually:

• Contact details — your name, email address, business or site name, and any postal or site address you give us so work can be delivered or attended.
• Enquiry and job information — the drawings, sketches, photographs, specifications, quantities and dates you send us, along with our correspondence about them.
• Transaction records — quotes, work orders, invoices and payment records, which we are required to keep for taxation and accounting purposes.
• Technical information — limited information generated automatically when you visit this website, described in section 6.

We do not collect sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act, and we ask that you do not send it to us. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

3. How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you — when you email us, complete the enquiry form on the contact page, speak with us about a job, or send us documents relating to work. The enquiry form on this website does not transmit anything by itself: it opens a message in your own email program, and nothing reaches us until you choose to send it.

Where it is lawful and practicable, you may deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym. In practice we cannot quote, manufacture or deliver work without a way to contact you.

4. Why we collect, hold, use and disclose it

We use personal information to:

• respond to enquiries and prepare written quotes;
• carry out, schedule and deliver the work you have engaged us to do;
• invoice, take payment and keep the financial records the law requires;
• maintain a record of parts made for you so a repeat batch matches the original; and
• meet our legal, taxation, insurance and workplace safety obligations.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it to send marketing material you have not asked for.

5. Who we disclose it to

We may disclose personal information to:

• suppliers, subcontractors and specialist processors where that is necessary to complete your job — for example a coating or heat-treatment provider, or a transport operator delivering finished work;
• our accountants, bookkeepers, insurers and professional advisers;
• service providers that host our email and business systems; and
• a court, regulator or government agency where we are required or authorised by law to do so.

We do not disclose personal information to overseas recipients as a matter of course. Some of the email and file storage services we use may store data on servers located outside Australia. Where that occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles the information in a way consistent with the APPs.

6. Cookies and website analytics

This website is a set of static pages. It does not set advertising or tracking cookies, does not run third-party analytics, and does not embed content from other services. Our hosting provider records standard server information such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, for security and reliability purposes. That information is not used to build a profile of you.

You can configure your browser to refuse cookies. Doing so will not affect how this website works.

7. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. That includes restricting access to our email and job records to the people who need it, and using access-controlled systems for stored files.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If you send us commercially sensitive drawings, tell us and we will agree suitable handling arrangements.

We keep quotation and job records for as long as they are needed for the purpose they were collected, and then for the period required by taxation, corporations and limitation-of-actions law. When information is no longer needed and we are not required to keep it, we destroy it or de-identify it.

8. Your drawings and specifications

Drawings, sketches, samples and specifications you send us remain your property and your confidential information. We use them only to quote and produce your work, and we do not share them with other customers or use them for another customer's job.

9. Accessing and correcting your information

You may ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. Write to ceo@schmickindustriestec.site.

We will respond within a reasonable period, normally within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. If we refuse access or correction, we will tell you why in writing and explain how to complain.

10. Complaints

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, contact us first at ceo@schmickindustriestec.site with the details. We will acknowledge your complaint, investigate it, and give you a written response — normally within 30 days.

11. Notifiable data breaches

If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to an individual whose personal information we hold, we will assess it and, where the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act applies, notify the affected individuals and the OAIC as required.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The current version is always the one published on this page, with the effective date shown above.
